Everyone’s favorite all-female Japanese musical theatre troupe has announced the Star Troupe’s next two big musicals – “Boys Over Flowers II – Shooting STAR” (a new adaptation of the manga following their 2019 production from Flower Troupe starring Yuzuka Rei) and “RRR x TAKA”R”AZUKA -√Rama-“, a two-act sequel to Star Troupe’s 2024 “RRR × TAKA”R”AZUKA~√Bheem~” (which condensed the entire movie into one act, but S.S. Rajamouli attended and gave his approval). “RRR x TAKA”R”AZUKA -√Rama-” will be a two-act adaptation of “RRR”, except with Rama as the main character instead of Bheem. The stars of 2024’s “RRR”, Rei Makoto and Maisora Hitomi, retired from the troupe in 2025 and 2024 respectively, and new Hoshigumi Top Star Akatsuki Chisei (as of August 2025) originally starred as Bheem in the 2024 production. Based on the success of their original “RRR” adaptation, they have decided to bring it back and expand it, with the role of Bheem now played by nibante (second ranking otokoyaku – male role actress – in the troupe) Rukaze Hikaru and heroine Sita being played by Top Musumeyaku (female role actress, musume meaning daughter) Uta Chizuru.

“Boys Over Flowers II – Shooting STAR” starring Akatsuki Chisei will be playing at the Misono-za Theater in Nagoya from June 9 to June 30, and also stars Uta Chizuru, Amato Kanon, Mitsuragi Kai, and Taiki Hayate (Rukaze Hikaru will instead be performing in her first dinner show during this period at the Daiichi Hotel in Tokyo and Takarazuka Hotel in Takarazuka). In Takarazuka, Hoshigumi will also be putting on “Two Pieces of Silver -The Plum-Branch Hair Pin” during this time, from June 12 to June 27, starring up-and-coming otokoyaku Kishou Kazuto.

“RRR x TAKA”R”AZUKA -√Rama-” will run from August 29 to October 11 in Takarazuka, and October 31 to December 13 in Tokyo (followed by Flower Troupe’s 11th adaptation since it’s premiere in 1996 of one of the Takarazuka Revue’s top musicals of all time, Elisabeth, starring Towaki Sea and Hoshizora Misaki). Also announced this week, Moon Troupe’s Top Pair of Houzuki An and Amashi Juri will be retiring after “Artemis of the Heavens/Belle Epoque”; “Artemis of the Heavens” is a new musical celebrating the Apollo program in the 1970s, announced in conjunction with the Artemis II mission (side note – I really hope they invite Christina Koch for a show, that would be amazing).
