Anne Hathaway’s favourite outfit from The Devil Wears Prada 2 was cut from the film.

Anne Hathaway, the star of The Devil Wears Prada and its newly released sequel, has revealed her favourite outfit from the follow-up film was cut — despite her enthusiasm for the look during production.

Despite the 43-year-old actress’ enthusiasm for the look during production, she has revealed it did not make the final version of the movie, which sees her reprise the role of Andy Sachs in the sequel directed by David Frankel, returning alongside Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly.

The new film, set 20 years after the original, sees Andy reintroduced as an award-winning investigative journalist in New York before being drawn back into the orbit of Runway magazine, run by Miranda.

Speaking at the European premiere of the film, Anne discussed the evolution of both her character and her own perspective on the role, as well as the creative decisions behind the film’s fashion.

Reflecting on one specific costume, Anne said: “I don’t know, it was a garment, more than anything else.”

She added: “But I loved it so much.”

But the actress explained the piece – a Phoebe Philo design – did not make the final edit.

She said: “And then I said that it was my favourite outfit in the film, and (director) David called me – I hadn’t seen the film yet – and he’s like, ‘It’s gone’.”

She added: “And I was like, ‘Well, maybe it was good that the paparazzi were there (on set to photograph it.)’”

The look, photographed during filming in New York in July 2025, featured a white T-shirt with a flowing train, paired with cropped trousers and accessories that reflected the film’s continued emphasis on high fashion – a hallmark of the original film, which became synonymous with its costume design under Patricia Field.

Patricia previously told Entertainment Weekly: “For me, the success of the clothing is not only that it looks good, but it has to tell the story.”

Anne also addressed the development of her Andy character since the first Devil Wears Prada film from 2006.

She said: “Oh, I think we’re both more confident, you know.”

Anne continued: “I think that, 20 years ago, Andy Sachs was really worried about getting it right, and she really wanted to please her boss, and now I think that she wants to be herself, and I relate to that.”

The sequel arrives amid renewed interest in the original film, which remains a defining entry in Anne’s career alongside roles in Les Misérables and The Idea of You.

During the press tour for the sequel, Anne revisited one of Andy’s most recognisable looks – a green coat with cheetah-print trim – also wearing it during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Her stylist, Erin Walsh, said of the decision: “Annie wanted to wrap the tour up with this nod to the film.”

She added: “Since it was the last moment of the tour, it felt like such a special piece.”
