Amazon’s spy series Citadel has been on a chaotic journey. Its first season was the second most expensive show ever made, after Amazon’s own The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, and was reportedly plagued by behind-the-scenes drama between producers. It still got a season 2 renewal ahead of its first episode dropping. However, it flopped in ratings upon release and attempts to turn it into a franchise with international spin-offs ended in cancelations. Season 2 was originally scheduled for fall 2025, but executives were so unhappy with the early footage that they paused filming to retool the show.
The trailer for that long-delayed and not-so-anticipated season dropped today, with Amazon also announcing that the season will drop 2 weeks from now, on May 6.
