HBO’s The Deuce, Candy and Rodney’s confrontation. After being assaulted as an independent prostitute is confronted by a pimp named Rodney, who attempts to recruit her in her moment of vulnerability.
Maggie Gyllenhaal conveys so much emotion in the scene, while Method Man (who plays Rodney) is totally menacing. It’s not just the two leads in the scene doing a good job, but also the extras, background characters, the set, and especially the sound design that really sells that this is taking place in late 1970s New York.
