The sun has set on Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David’s love story now that Paramount+ has cancelled NCIS: Tony & Ziva after one season.

Stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, who played Tony and Ziva, respectively, on both NCIS and the spinoff series, issued a joint statement on Friday, December 19, shortly after news of the cancellation broke.

“We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story,” the pair and longtime collaborators wrote via Weatherly’s Instagram. “Our deepest thanks goes to our extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors and producers, and to our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ who helped make this dream a reality.”

The actors concluded: “But most of all, we want to thank the fans around the world who joined us on this adventure and finally got to see Tony and Ziva find their happily ever after.”

NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s Cote de Pablo revealed she rejected an intimacy coordinator for her scenes with onscreen love interest Michael Weatherly. De Pablo, 45, was asked about whether an intimacy coordinator was brought in for their Paramount+ spinoff series, to which she told TV Insider on Monday, July 28, “Did not need one. They […]

CBS and Paramount+ revealed earlier on Friday that NCIS: Tony & Ziva would not be returning to the streamer for a second season.

Fans were first introduced to Special Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo during season 1 of NCIS in 2003, which follows the Naval Criminal Investigative Service unit in Washington, D.C., as they solve crimes involving servicemen and women around the area.

De Pablo’s Ziva David made her debut on the flagship series during season 3 in 2005, and her chemistry with Tony was instant. It wasn’t until 2013, however, that the TV characters became a couple and professed their love for one another.

Three years later, Ziva’s family home in Israel was attacked by terrorists and she was presumed dead. After the bombing, Tony learned he and Ziva share a daughter, Tali, which prompted him to leave NCIS to care for the child.

NCIS fans learned during season 17 of the CBS show that Ziva was alive — but her future with Tony was left up in the air.

Weatherly, 57, left NCIS in 2016 after 13 seasons, while de Pablo, 46, exited the show during season 11 in 2013, briefly returning during season 17 to confirm her survival.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva brings NCIS alums Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David back into limelight — but what have they been up to since leaving the Washington, D.C., office? During the series premiere in September, fans were transported to modern times where Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) are coparenting their daughter, Tali […]

Paramount+ announced in February 2024 that the actors would be reprising their roles on the new show, NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

When the spinoff premiered in September, Tony and Ziva were coparenting their daughter, Tali, in France. After Tony’s company was blamed for stealing money from Europol — and Tali became a target for an unknown assailant — he and Ziva teamed up to protect their daughter and clear his name.

Season 1 concluded in October. After giving fans glimpses at the missing years between 2020, when Tony and Ziva were reunited, and 2025, when they worked together to once again fight crime, the couple officially rekindled their romance.

“They’re both actively [and] honestly trying,” de Pablo exclusively told Us Weekly in October as to why viewers should be hopeful that Ziva and Tony won’t break up — again. “They’re not trying [or] avoiding the wounds. They’re trying [their hand at] acknowledging the wounds.”

She explained why the pair ultimately found their way back to each other on the spinoff, saying, “The real connection between them comes from, obviously, there are these very tender, also very flirtatious moments they have. Then, of course, the very sort of sexy scenes.”

While the show won’t be coming back — at least for now — fans can watch season 1 of NCIS: Tony & Ziva on Paramount+.
