Actor Dennis Quaid said his relationship with his wife of five years is “the closest relationship I’ve ever had with anybody.”
In a new interview with Fox News, Quaid, 71, said his life with his wife, Laura Savoie, 32, “is paradise.”
“Every day is paradise with her. It really is.”
Quaid and Savoie wed in June 2020 just a year after meeting each other at “a business event,” Fox News reports.
“What can I tell you? I don’t know why God had waited so long to bring her, for her to come along, but [I’m] really glad he brought her into my life, or I walked into hers,” Quaid said of his romance.
As for the age gap, Quaid said he knows it is the talk of the town for some people, but for him, he doesn’t really notice the 39 years between them.
“I haven’t spoken out about the age difference of my wife. Other people have. But…I really don’t think about it,” he admitted. “She’s got so much going on that, you know, I just don’t notice it. She’s just, she’s the light of my life.”
“I wasn’t looking for it, and she came along, and it’s God put us together,” he reiterated.
In 2019, while talking with The Guardian, Quaid called all the attention on his and Savoie’s ages “a laugh.”
“I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed,” Quaid said at the time.
“You have no control over who you fall in love with,” the “Parent Trap” actor told The Guardian. “I don’t fall in love easy. But I can’t let what a few people think control all that.”
“I’ve been married three times and this is the final one, I know it is,” he said. “I feel like I have a real partner in life.”
According to People, Savoie and Quaid eloped “in Santa Barbara at a seaside resort,” despite teasing that they would get married at the same vineyard where he filmed The Parent Trap in 1996.
Quaid took his now-wife there after getting engaged in 2019.
