An alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, Clausen gradually worked his way up the ladder in Hollywood’s music departments through the 1960s and 1970s, before really arriving in the 1980s, most notably as the primary composer for Moonlighting and ALF. Unemployed after the end of the latter, he soon found himself hired to work on Season 2 of The Simpsons in 1990, a job he would hold for the next 27 years. All those great musical moments you remember from the show were his work, for which he earned two Emmys (and many, many more nominations). His tenure ended acrimoniously, being dismissed in what was widely considered a cost-saving measure.
