It might be a bit confusing that the Emmys 2024 will honor television that aired in 2023, but on the red carpet, where contemporary and timeless fashion always manage to find a way to coexist, it’s just semantics. Though it’s been a long and winding road to the Emmys, which were initially scheduled for September 2023 and then delayed due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday will celebrate achievements in television that aired between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. While that time frame may feel like ages ago, some performances are simply impossible to forget, and seeing some of Hollywood’s most esteemed stars on the red carpet could jog your memory—and maybe even a belly laugh or your tear ducts.
Last year, The White Lotus, Succession, The Bear, The Last of Us, Beef, and Ted Lasso were just some of the myriad of shows that kept us talking with their star-studded casts and standout performances—and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences took notice. Succession, which ended its four-season run in May, earned a whopping 27 nominations, while The Last of Us, the HBO series starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, boasts 24. Just behind them are The White Lotus (yet another HBO show) with 23 nominations and Ted Lasso (from Apple TV+) with 21 nods, which means the Emmys 2024 red carpet will be packed with star power as nominees like Ali Wong, Quinta Brunson, Rachel Brosnahan, Christina Applegate, Natasha Lyonne, Jenna Ortega, Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Chastain, Melanie Lynskey, and Riley Keough step out to see who takes home the night’s awards.
