Netflix bought a sci-fi series from director Carl Rinsch in 2018 and spent $55M developing it
Not a single episode has been finished
Instead, the director has reportedly spent $11M of Netflix’s money gambling on risky stocks and buying dogecoin, which he flipped for $27M… pic.twitter.com/j69bokbxU0

Do they keep raising prices to recoup the cost of this lmao.
- Carl Rinsch has only directed one movie – 2013’s Keanu Reeves movie, 47 Ronin, which I remember enjoying – before he was pulled from it in post-prod because it went overbudget
- Netflix gave him 50$m bc ‘potential’.
- He spent 11$m on crypto, and did get a ROI of 27$m, but financed the rest with his money (Well I guess his payout?) and bought cars and furniture.
- He allegedly filmed for 24 hours straight in Kenya, using non-unioned European actors.
- Several episodes have allegedly been shot since 2019, but Netflix has not seen them, so to them, they’re just not shot.
- Like if they don’t see it, how would they know?
TW: Abuse mention follows
- Apparently, according to GFR, which I normally would not use, but a lot aligns with what I could glance from the NYT article, his mental state is pretty bad, including violence towards his wife, believing COVID is a conspiracy
Me trying to parse this information when part of it is behind a paywall, one of the sources is questionable, and it’s batshit wild.
