Greg Daniels, co-creator of King of the Hill along with Mike Judge, has revealed some additional information regarding the upcoming Hulu revival.
Daniels anticipates that the revival will premiere sometime in early 2025, while also stating that the writing staff has been back at work post-WGA strike.
Attentive fans noted that, early in the announcement of the revival series, returning cast members were listed, along with the roles that they played in the original series. Conspicuous in his absence was Toby Huss, who voiced the late Cotton Hill as well as Hank’s Laotian neighbor and frenemy, Kahn. Animation shows have made great efforts to help increase diversity in front of the microphone, recasting roles for characters of color to be performed by voice actors of color. In the casting announcement, Lauren Tom, who voices both Kahn’s wife and daughter, was confirmed to return, leading fans to wonder ‘what about Kahn?’
Daniels has no concrete answer regarding the fate of the character, though he did provide insight. “I’m not sure whether Kahn’s coming back. But I think we would most likely replace Toby’s voice for Kahn.” So, Kahn’s presence is not guaranteed.
I will support the hell out of this show, no matter what. King of the Hill is probably my pick for the greatest animated sitcom of all time (yes, even more than the Simpsons), and I love the characters. But Kahn is easily my favorite character of all of them, and I will be gutted if he’s killed off or has divorced Minh and abandoned Connie, or even if he has a permanent job that just means he’s off screen.
