After U.S. Nationals last month, USAG’s committee (Chelsea Memmel, Alicia Sacramone, and Dan Baker) invited just under 20 gymnasts to selection camp. Last night, they had a meet with the participants. The gymnast who finished first in all around received a guaranteed spot on the world championship team. The remaining four spots and the alternate were chosen by the committee on Wednesday after another day of competition.

Simone has already competed at five world championships, tying the American record with Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller, Kerri Strug, Jonathan Horton, Danell Leyva, Sam Mikulak, Alex Naddour, John Roethlisberger and Donnell Whittenburg. After she competes in the upcoming world championships, she will establish a new American record!
At 26, she is also the oldest American gymnast to make the world championship team in over 50 years. Doris Fuchs Brause competed at the 1966 world championships when she was 28.

Note: American gymnasts Emma Malabuyo, Aleah Finnegan, and Levi Jung Ruivivar (all former national team members) are now representing the Philippines in hopes of competing at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
