Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album, GUTS, debuts atop the Billboard 200 chart (dated Sept. 23), scoring the singer-songwriter her second no. 1 album with first week sales of 302,000 equivalent album units (150K pure). This marks the fourth-largest week for any album in 2023 and Rodrigo’s best opening yet.
Her sophomore album was initially expected to do between 250-265K, but as the week progressed, predictions rose.
For comparison, Liv’s debut album SOUR debuted at no. 1 with sales of 295K (72K pure) on the Billboard 200 albums chart in 2021.
Here is the full breakdown for GUTS first week:
150,000 album sales (94,000 vinyl sales)
1,000 TEA units
151,000 SEA units (199.59 million on-demand streams)
Her lead single “vampire” is expected to return to the no. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 officially tomorrow. Liv will have the no. 1 song and no. 1 album in the country for the week.
The album also debuted at no. 1 in the UK. It outsold the rest of the top 10 combined. According to the Official Charts Company, GUTS racked up 60,300 chart “units”, a figure that combines physical sales with streaming figures. That’s almost 10,000 more than her debut, which moved 51,000 chart units in its first week.
