Mikayla Matthews is clarifying the reason for her exit from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
On Monday (September 14), the 26-year-old announced she quit the Hulu series amid filming on season six, and the next day, she took to her Instagram story to set the record straight on why she’s leaving.
In her original statement, though she didn’t name names, it was presumed she was referring to Taylor Frankie Paul as the reason for her exit, and in her new statement, she confirmed it.
“Also to make things even MORE clear and shut down any assumptions cause there’s plenty going around and it’s still not clear to some people..
The ONLY reason I’m leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back.
I told them before agreeing to do 6 that I wasn’t going to film if that certain someone came back. Because it’s UNETHICAL and kids are involved. And I’m being put in an unfair position because of the things I’ve seen and heard that I don’t agree with. Not just the barstool video everyone else saw(which mind you I saw this video for the first time in March) and other things with it that obviously made me question the one side I was hearing and unknowingly enabling the whole time. Mikayla went on to say that the only reason why she agreed to film season six is because Taylor was not going to be there, but once they were told she was returning, Mikayla walked away.
“I said great, then I will not be participating, god bless and goodbye, haven’t filmed a day since,” she said.
“This wasn’t a spur of then moment decision and it wasn’t influenced a single percent by season 5 coming out. Infact already had that brought to everyone’s attention and had that stance when I was doing season 5 interviews
No ultimatums, I’m not in control of who comes and who leaves. If you guys watched season 5 and thought wow this is hard to watch, incredibly triggering and frustrating, imagine having it be your reality everyday. Why would you willingly agree to put your self back in that environment that has cause all that discomfort for every single person on this cast and crew
I have my contractual obligations and interviews for what I have filmed and that’s the end of that. I ‘keep talking about it’ because it’s still effecting me. It’s my livelihood and I’m extremely bothered by it. For the cast, the CREW who also had to take a break from how they provide for their family, the millions of dollars lost. In the recently released fifth season of SLOMW, Mikayla and Taylor got into a big verbal fight in the finale, as Mikayla called out Taylor‘s actions and her going back to her ex, Dakota Mortenson. However, after the fight, Taylor apologized, and they shared a hug, and both shed tears.
Taylor‘s status on the show was uncertain after her season of The Bachelorette was axed due to legal drama with Dakota.
