Ocean Way Festival will no longer make its Santa Monica debut this month.

The two-day Goldenvoice event, which was set to feature The Killers, Olivia Dean, and Jack White, has been canceled ahead of its scheduled September 26-27 dates, Variety reports.

Ticket holders will receive automatic refunds, while the city and promoter and working toward holding the festival the 2027.

Why was the Ocean Festival canceled?

There is no longer enough usable beach to safely host the event, according to a Santa Monica city statement.

Officials said surf generated by Hurricane Marie stripped sand from part of the festival site over Labor Day weekend. Runoff from the Pico-Kenter Storm Dain damaged another section, further reducing the space available.

That left the city assessing whether the festival could fit into the remaining area allowing room for construction, crowds, and emergency vehicles. Officials determined that it could not safely proceed, with construction and load-in due to begin the following week.

“The beach can no longer safely accommodate the festival production and audience capacity, and with construction and load-in set to begin next week, the city determined that cancellation was the only responsible option. Plans are already underway to bring the Ocean Way Festival back to Santa Monica in 2027,” the statement said.

The festival had hoped to welcome as many as 45,000 people per day.

The canceled weekend would have included performances by The Killers, Jack White, Sublime during Saturday’s lineup. Sunday’s lineup would have featured Olivia Dean, Khruangbin, and Durand Jones & the Indications.

Will Ocean Way Festival tickets be refunded?

Refunds will be processed automatically within five to seven business days of the notice, according to the message sent to ticket holders as cited by Variety.

Passes had been sold at prices ranging from $249 to $2,250, with both single-day and two-day options available.

Is Ocean Way Festival coming back?

The city and Goldenvoice say they are planning to bring the festival back for 2027.

Santa Monica Mayor Caroline Torosia acknowledged the disappointment for fans, performers, and local businesses, while emphasizing that the damaged site could not safely accommodate the expected crowds. She also said the city’s partnership with Goldenvoice would continue.

“We are committed to returning to Santa Monica in 2027 and delivering the Ocean Way Festival experience we envisioned for the community, artists and fans,” she said in a statement quoted by the outlet.
