Weezer have officially kicked off their massive Weezer: The Gathering Tour!
The rock band launched the 32-city North American arena tour with a sold-out show at the Golden 1 Center on Tuesday night (September 8) in Sacramento, Calif.
Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner performed a 26-song set spanning more than three decades of music, including some tracks that hadn’t been performed live in years.
The tour comes on the heels of the release of the band’s 20th studio album, Weezer (The Gold Album), which arrived in August and includes the songs “Shine Again,” “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” “C.E.O.” and “Hoops.”
During opening night, Weezer performed several songs from the new album alongside hits including “Beverly Hills,” “Buddy Holly,” “Island in the Sun,” “Say It Ain’t So” and “Undone – The Sweater Song.”
There were also some major surprises for longtime fans!
Which Rare Songs Did Weezer Bring Back?
According to Setlist.fm, “Slob” was performed for the first time since 2005, while “Lonely Girl” returned for the first time since 2014 and “Keep Fishin’” was played for the first time since 2018.
The band also gave “No Other One” its first full-band performance since 2019 and performed “Aloo Gobi” with the full band for the first time.
Silversun Pickups bassist Nikki Monninger joined Weezer during “We Might As Well Be Strangers,” “Go Away” and “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams.”
The Weezer: The Gathering Tour features The Shins and Silversun Pickups as special guests and will continue with a show at the Moda Center in Portland, Ore. on Friday (September 11). The tour will travel across North America before wrapping on October 24 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
