A new Pokémon movie was just announced!
The hit trading card and video game franchise revealed Pokémon: Wild Card on Sunday (August 30), on the final day of their first-ever fan convention, 2026 World Championships, in San Francisco, Calif.
In addition to the movie’s announcement, the first teaser trailer was unveiled.
What is Pokémon: Wild Card about?
The upcoming first Pokémon movie since 2020 is set to feature a Pokémon TCG player and Mimikyu.
Katsuhiko Kitada serves as director, with character design by Akemi Hayashi.
Pokémon: Wild Card is set for a worldwide theatrical release in 2027.
Disney+ announces Pokémon distribution deal
News of Pokémon: Wild Card comes just days after it was announced that Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International have teamed up for a global distribution deal.
First up will be Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, created by Aardman, debuting on the streamer worldwide in 2027.
In the stop-motion series, “Sirfetch’d and Pichu embark on an epic journey through the Galar Region. Together, they set out on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.”
Pokémon and Aardman first teased the upcoming project in late 2024!

Pokémon the Series: The Beginning is also part of the distribution deal, and recently started airing on Disney XD, and is available to stream on Disney+ now in the US and select international markets.
