Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues its box office reign with a $22 million weekend, bringing its domestic total to $891.5 million. It is on the cusp of becoming the top grossing domestic film of all time.
In second place was newcomer Coyote vs Acme, the film that David Zaslav nearly sent to the virtual trash heap for a tax write-off, with a $15.5 million opening weekend. That is the biggest opening ever for Ketchup Entertainment, the distributor that rescued the film for theatrical viewings.
The Odyssey continues its long run in the top five with a $14.3 million weekend. So far, it has made $563.8 million at the domestic box office.
In fourth spot was Insidious: Out of the Further, which pulled in $10.1 million, bringing its total domestic take to $43 million.
Rounding out the top five was new release The Dog Stars, which received tepid reviews and a C+ Cinemascore, with an $8 million domestic take. The film cost north of $80 million to produce.
New releases Idiots and Finding Emily made $700k and $680k respectively, though the former was in over 1100 theaters and the latter was only in 681.
