    Jake McDorman to Star in ‘Aquamarine’ Sequel Series with Emma Roberts Returning as Guest Star

    The beloved 2006 movie Aquamarine is getting a sequel series on Disney+, over 20 years later!

    Jake McDorman and Emma Roberts are both confirmed to return for the project, which will focus on the daughter of Aquamarine (Sara Paxton) and lifeguard Raymond (McDorman).

    “When teenaged Coral moves to a dreamy seaside town, she begins unraveling the truth behind her mother’s disappearance—and discovers her mother was a mermaid, awakening magical powers in Coral just as secrets beneath the waves threaten to surface,” the official logline reads (via TheWrap).

    14-year-old Kenzi Richardson will play Coral, the “thoughtful and artistic teenager who discovers she is half mermaid and must navigate adolescence, identity and the absence of the mother she never knew.” She is best known for starring in Disney Channel’s series Vampirina: Teenage Vampire.

    Briella Guiza, Theodore Dalton and Annika Reese are joining the cast as well. Guiza is playing Coral’s edgy best friend Mia, Dalton is playing a surfer names August who draws Coral in thanks to his emotional depth, and Reese is playing the beach club’s queen bee Paige who is not the typical mean girl.

    Jake, 40, will return as Raymond as a series regular while Emma, 35, will be back as Claire Brown in a guest star capacity. Emma will also be an executive producer on the show

    Aquamarine only grossed $18.5 million at the domestic box office back in 2006, but it has remained a popular movie among fans in the two decades since.
