Samuel Monroe Jr. has sadly passed away.

The actor, best known for playing Ilena’s cousin in 1993’s Menace II Society, faced a battle with meningitis, according to his family.
His mom Joyce Patton confirmed the news to TMZ on Thursday (August 27).
She said that the actor passed around 10:24 p.m. PT on Wednesday (August 26) at a hospital, and shared an announcement on Facebook as well.
What Did Samuel Monroe Jr.’s Mother Say?
“I want to thank all of my facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son. But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children,” she wrote.
He was hospitalized back in April with meningitis and MRSA pneumonia, among other medical issues. He was reportedly put on life support.

Samuel is also known for starring in Tales from the Hood, Set It Off and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.
More recently, he was credited for movies like Lockdown 2025, Blood Sacrifice and 2022’s Shine Kings, as well as an episode of Mann and Wife in 2015 and two episodes of 2019’s Black Jesus.
