Argentina soccer player Lucas Trejo’s wife and two children have been killed in the devastating Venezuela earthquakes.
“Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira deeply regrets the irreparable loss of the wife and children of our player Lucas Trejo. His wife Yanina and their children Aaron and Ainhoa. At this time of immense sorrow, we offer our prayers for the eternal rest of their souls and for Lucas to have the strength to face this tragedy,” Trejo’s team, Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira, wrote via Instagram on Sunday, June 28, translated via ChatGPT and confirming his family’s death while sharing a black and white image of them. “Lucas, you are not alone. Your Marítimo La Guaira family is with you. We stand beside you with all our hearts, with respect, unity, and solidarity.
The statement continued, “From the club, your teammates, coaching staff, management, and all our supporters, we send you our heartfelt embrace. Always Marítimo. Always with you. Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira.”
The caption continued to pay tribute to Lucas’ family.
“For the eternal rest of Yanina de Trejo (wife), Aaron Trejo (son) and Ainhoa Trejo (daughter) of our player Lucas Trejo,” the caption read, translated to English. “The big family of the Maritime Sport Club of La Guaira offers their condolences for the death of their relatives, which occurred last June 24th during the earthquake that shook the whole country 🙏🏻.”
The statement continued, “Directors, coaches, players, administrative, operational and administrative staff of the club we ask God for the eternal rest of the family of Lucas Trejo 🙏🏻. We also continue to pray for the rescue of other victims of this catastrophe in La Guaira🇻🇪.”
The soccer player also honored his family via his Instagram Story on Saturday, June 27, sharing a photo of him and his wife and two children. In the image, he rested a hand on his wife’s knees as the children sat beside the couple and smiled.
The family had reportedly been missing after their apartment building collapsed during the two devastating earthquakes that hit the region on Wednesday, June 24. NBC reported on Sunday that the death toll from the earthquakes — both over 7.0 in magnitude — has surpassed 1,000 people.
Months prior, Lucas gave his wife a sweet shoutout on her birthday and shared the same image of the family of four.
“Happy birthday my love!!! 😍,” he wrote via Instagram, translated to English. “May God richly bless your life and continue to fulfill the desires of your heart.. It is a blessing for us as a family to have you and to move forward in the purpose we have together! With you everything is easier and more beautiful always.
He continued, “Have the best year of your life (so far) and let’s keep our eyes and hearts on Jesus that big surprises are coming your way. I love you yesterday, today and always! ❤️.”
