Lizzo has a new album coming out June 5 called B-tch. Observers have noticed that her promotion for the album has been unconventional to erratic, to say the least. Let’s take a look at what has been going on.
Earlier this month, Lizzo criticized her label, Atlantic, for failing to promote the album. She said, “I don’t know, but I’m crashing out on my label right now because I just really like – I feel like there’s not any marketing money being put toward my ideas.”
Lizzo also claimed that the new algorithms on social media are racist and fat-phobic, and that they make it more difficult for artists to promote their albums. In her video, she said that she often didn’t know about upcoming albums from artists she liked, and that, “I have people who want to buy my album, but how they ‘gon buy it if they don’t know it’s for sale? The day after she made those remarks, she posted a TikTok saying that she took it back and that she loves the algorithm.
Turns out that her public criticism could be a promotional tactic in itself? Because a bunch of media outlets ran stories about Lizzo putting up posters by herself in public for her new album, conveniently with perfect hair and makeup. She also posted a video of this on TikTok.
In another unconventional move, Lizzo has been interacting with stan Twitter accounts, sometimes writing in the voice of a stan Twitter account.

After fans pointed out that this was a bit cringe, Lizzo tweeted:
So… I haven’t been on twitter in awhile so I’m used to interacting w tweets that I think are funny. Didn’t realize this whole bitch became stanland 😭 https://t.co/GK8xGolRCL

B-tch will be Lizzo’s first big release since the 2023 allegations of misconduct leveled against her by three backup dancers. In late 2024, a court dismissed the harassment case against Lizzo, but another lawsuit is still pending against her touring company, Big Grrrl Touring, Inc.
In addition to her album, Lizzo has a new song out with Sexyy Red for the next Scary Movie installment. The title track from the new album samples “Bitch,” by Meredith Brooks. It remains to be seen whether Lizzo’s album and songs will draw the same numbers as “Truth Hurts,” “Juice,” Special, and “About Damn Time,” but, hey, I guess it’s possible.
Will you be streaming Lizzo’s new album, B-tch?
