As Helena Bonham Carter departed a week into filming, HBO decided to rethink and recast the role.
Dern’s character will be different from Carter’s, but will maintain the same prominence in the storyline.
Dern had an uncredited voice cameo in season two playing the wife of Michael Imperioli’s character.
