Demi Engemann is officially unbothered — or at least trying to be.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star is finally addressing the fallout from her costar Jessi Ngatikaura exposing the NSFW meaning behind her and husband Bret Engemann’s infamous “Fruity Pebbles” moment. And yes, Demi knows the whole world is talking about it.
“Fruity Pebbles has been a topic that we all teased and talked about for so long [on the show],” Demi told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published December 4. “And as much as it was a private moment and we never planned on sharing this ourselves, we just have nothing else left to do other than own it and have fun with it.”
That said, even Demi can admit it wasn’t exactly a dream scenario watching a private bedroom detail turn into a viral headline. She said having to show up Thanksgiving with her family “the next day” felt “awkward” — adding, “It was not ideal.”
Fans first heard about the couple’s cereal-coded intimacy during the show, when Demi revealed that Fruity Pebbles had been involved in her sex life with Bret … but she never explained how or why. Months later, amid an ongoing feud with Demi, Jessi decided to fill in the blanks on Instagram — and the explanation was a lot more explicit than anyone expected.
In a November 25 story, Jessi alleged that the cereal reference came from Bret’s preference for a certain NSFW act, claiming he “likes to drink [Demi’s] piss like it’s dirty soda,” adding, “He gulps it down like water.”
Demi didn’t deny it. Instead, she clarified that the incident was a “one-time” thing and described it as a “consensual and private experience in our marriage.”
Once the story was out there, Demi figured it was better to take control than stay silent. “I just thought that it was out there and it’s gonna be talked about enough,” she explained. She added that once she embraced the reality of the situation, “I was able to handle the comments and everything with more levity, which was nice.”
So where do things stand between Demi and Jessi now? Surprisingly, Demi isn’t writing her off.
“At the end of the day, I never wish anyone ill will and I don’t want to see anyone fail or suffer,” she shared. “I want her to do well and I hope she is doing well.”
