Mary Bonnet revealed she has an “iron clad” prenup with Romain Bonnet after being “burned” by her ex-husband.

“I’m very for prenups,” Mary, 45, said during the Monday, November 17, episode of the “Trading Secrets” podcast, explaining that she had to “file bankruptcy” after her ex-husband “took everything” from her and “ran up a bunch of credit” in her name.

The Selling Sunset star noted that when she married Romain, 32, in March 2018, she made sure to cover herself.

“Because our situation has changed quite a lot since the beginning of the show and when Romain and I got married. We have additional things to [our prenup],” Mary said, explaining that the purchase of their house was an amendment to their initial paperwork.

Mary told podcast host Jason Tartick that she is “very fair” with all of her postnuptial amendments as well, even though she “put down the money” for their house.

“I make more money and Romain is fine with that, he doesn’t care. He contributes,” the real estate agent shared. “People were saying he’s a gold digger. He contributes and always wants to. He’s a very stubborn man.”

Mary said that she doesn’t think Romain would “ever try and take my money,” but if that changes their prenup will protect her.

“Basically it states that any money that I put into the house comes back to me first if we sell it. Then he gets an amount that we both decided was fair when we were in love and a good place,” she explained, adding that she wanted to have their agreement outlined while they were “in love” so that they both had their “wits about” them and didn’t just want to “destroy the person’s life.”

Mary revealed that with her “pretty iron clad” legal agreement, both she and Romain would “take out” whatever they walked into the relationship with.

The reality star also said that the couple have separate bank accounts as a way to protect herself against past mistakes.

“I will not do that again. I was burned,” Mary said of having a joint bank account, noting that Romain has “no problem” with keeping their money separate.

As fans of Selling Sunset know, Mary is a force to be reckoned with in the Los Angeles real estate industry.

She told Tartick, 37, that she “got lucky” during her first year in the industry, selling three homes when most new agents work all year to sell just one. Mary couldn’t remember the exact commission she brought in that year, but recalled the Hermosa Beach, California, property selling for $2 million.

Mary noted that as the Netflix series has taken off, her real estate income isn’t all she lives off. She recalled making “pretty close” to $1 million one year from social media deals, confirming that in an off year she can make more as an influencer than a realtor.

Ultimately, Mary’s job in real estate has been very lucrative. She revealed that her “largest” deal to date was $35 million.

Season 9 of Selling Sunset is now streaming on Netflix.
