The newest incarnation of Superman soared at the box office this weekend, as the film took in $122 million domestically and $95 million internationally. These numbers are likely softer than expected, as one of the superheroes most closely associated with the USA may not be enjoying the country’s diminished popularity overseas, but it was good enough for the third best opening of 2025 domestically.

Superman will likely lead the box office for at least one more weekend, as next weekend’s competition is Eddington, Smurfs and I Know What You Did Last Summer. But then Fantastic Four: First Steps swoops in at the end of July, and that will likely take a large chunk of its superhero loving audience.

In second place was last weekend’s victor, Jurassic Park: Rebirth, which fell 57% and brought in $40 million. F1 came in third with a 50% drop and a $13 million haul in its third weekend of release.

How to Train Your Dragon came in fourth with $7.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $239.8 million. And in fifth place was Pixar’s Elio with $3.9 million, bringing its total gross after four weeks of release to $63.6 million.

At the indie box office, The Phoenician Scheme has crossed $19 million at the box office, while Sorry, Baby has yet to crack a million dollars.
