In my youth (because I am an old), Konami was a video game powerhouse. Castlevania, Contra, Mystical Ninja, these are part of the console gaming blueprint that created the gamer that is me. Throw in their arcade beat’em ups and how much money I spent playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Turtles in Time (also on consoles, Konami’s TMNT console game was strong!), or the X-Men arcade game (Dazzler main, because that cartwheel was amazing), or the Simpsons. You’ve also got Metal Gear, which holds no appeal to me but is iconic.

Konami’s still around in the year of our lord 2025. But they’ve spent a noticeable amount of time this century… not focusing on games in the traditional sense. They’ve become a pachinko company, seemingly. Sure, they dabble in their roots, but the Konami of old? It’s gone. And their properties? They tend to be buried. Remembered fondly, but never refreshed.

Suikoden was, for a time, a jewel in the Konami catalog. 5 core games were released during the PS1 and PS2 eras, along with few side-stories, most of which stayed in Japan (one even being a digital card game). A rich world was developed. The series was never a sales powerhouse, but those of us who knew? We loved.

The first two games were PS1 games, and they were undoubtedly the best amongst the fans. We’ve known for years that Konami was going to do HD remasters of these games, and even though the release was delayed from the originally announced time frame, the Suikoden I and II HD collection is available now! Konami also held a Suikoden showcase, talking about the series. And what did they announce? An anime adaptation of Suikoden II!

For those that don’t know, Suikoden II tells the story of two lifelong friends who find themselves on opposite ends of a Kingdom-wide conflict, both attempting to reach a desired resolution through very different means.

Some dared to think that Suikoden VI could be announced. It wasn’t. Instead, we get a mobile game. Maybe… MAAAAAAYBE… we’ll eventually get a console release of the full mobile game. The trailer is in Japanese, without subtitles.

AND… Critical Role will be having an In-Universe (Suikoden Universe, not Exandria) One-Shot this upcoming week! So Konami is throwing some money at this property. So there’s hope.
