Children were ready for a new hero at the box office, as Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man outperformed the field with a $36 million dollar opening weekend.
This weekend’s other new wide release, Companion, came in second, making Warner Bros $9.5 million domestically on a $10 million budget. Though the budget doesn’t include marketing costs, it looks like the film will end up to be a profitable venture.
In third was Mufasa with $6.1 million, with One of Them Days right behind at $6 million. Last weekend’s winner Flight Risk plummeted to fifth place, bringing in $5.6 million for a total run of $20.9 million domestically.
