Taylor Swift broke her silence regarding the wildfires in Los Angeles, and she issued a statement revealing the multiple charities she donated to.
“The fires in California have devastated so many families, and it’s been heartbreaking to see the stories unfold,” Taylor, 35, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, January 16. “So much suffering, loss and destruction.”
The “Cornelia Street” singer continued, “As so many embark on some of the most challenging times of their lives, there are also many amazing organizations and groups banding together to help these communities rebuild.”
Taylor then listed a handful of charities that people could donate to, including California Community Foundation Fund, Direct Relief, the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, MusiCares, Greater Los Angeles Education Relief, Habitat for Humanity and others.
“These are the organizations I’ve donated to,” she concluded. “If you feel compelled or able to donate, please do.”
At least 27 people have died in the Eaton and Palisades fires at the time of publication, according to officials. The fires – which erupted on January 7 – have caused damage to thousands of structures and approximately 180,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.
Taylor owns a home in Beverly Hills, though the various fires have not reached her property.
While Taylor’s California home is currently safe, many celebrities have lost their houses amid the wildfires.
Milo Ventimiglia previously opened up about losing his home to the fires, and he spoke to CBS News while returning to the property after he was forced to evacuate. “You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and what not and then you see your neighbors houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks,” Milo, 47, said.
Other celebrities that have also lost their homes include Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joshua Jackson, Anna Faris, Cameron Mathison, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag.
Spencer, 41, and Heidi, 38, have been open about the tragedy of losing their home, and they recalled having to evacuate with their sons, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2, during the Wednesday, January 15, episode of Good Morning America.
“Spencer was like, ‘Grab anything you want to keep,’ ” Heidi said through tears. “And I was like, ‘How do you choose?’ You know? My brain stopped working because I was so overwhelmed with so many things you can’t replace. So I grabbed my kids’ teddy bears.”
Meanwhile, Spencer said he got emotional watching their sons’ bedrooms burn down on their cameras. “The worst was like our kid’s room that was so magical,” he said. “We do story time each night, it’s like our routine, so much love is in there. Our son’s bed started just burning in the shape of a heart. The fire started in the shape of a heart. I was like, ‘This is like, out of body insane.’”
While reflecting on all of the belongings they lost in the fire, Spencer admitted he felt “like a ghost.” The Hills alum continued, “I don’t have a single photo now from before an iPhone existed. I don’t have any of the dumb little things that are on your shelves in your parents’ they’re all gone. Not a single nothing.”
