The 64-year-old actor played George Costanza on the sitcom from 1989 to 1998 \u2013 picking up seven consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards nominations and four Golden Globe Awards for his work \u2013 and his co-star Michael Richards, who played kooky neighbour Kramer on the show, has now told how he almost walked away from the job during series three of the series.<\/p>\n

Michael tells in his new autobiography, \u2018Entrances and Exits\u2019, Jason got frustrated in 1991 while filming the episode \u2018The Pen\u2019 \u2013 which sees Jerry Seinfeld<\/a>\u2019s character Jerry and their friend Elaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, visit Jerry\u2019s parents in Florida.<\/p>\n

Michael and Jason were both left out of the episode, which Michael said he accepted with \u201cequanimity\u201d as it also happened during season two.<\/p>\n

He revealed: \u201cBut Jason threatens to quit after learning that he\u2019s also not in the episode. He\u2019s furious.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nBut Michael admitted he understood Jason\u2019s point of view, adding: \u201cJason came onto the show with the most confidence of anyone. He had won a Tony Award on the New York stage, not an insignificant achievement, and until the table read for \u2018The Pen\u2019, he has assumed that \u2018Seinfeld\u2019 is a buddy show, starring him and Jerry.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cBut this business breeds both massive egos and incredible insecurity, and this episode is one of those ego-jarring wakeup calls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nThe 2016 book \u2018Seinfeldia: How a Show About Nothing Changed Everything\u2019 revealed Jason snapped at head writer Larry David about being left out of \u2018The Pen\u2019: \u201cIf you write me out again, do it permanently.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nWhen Larry \u2013 who went on create hit sitcom \u2018Curb Your Enthusiasm\u2019 \u2013 tried to explain how difficult it was to make room for four main characters in every episode, Jason is said to have told the comic: \u201cDon\u2019t tell me your problems. If you don\u2019t need me here, I don\u2019t want to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nJason has also confirmed the story, telling \u2018Access Hollywood\u2019 he blew up at Larry, now 76.<\/p>\n

\nBut he added: \u201cThank God he didn\u2019t say \u2018Take a hike,\u2019 because I would have had no life and no career.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
