Pictures released the trailer for the sequel, <em>Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/em>. Many of its stars remain beloved acting icons to this day.<\/p>\n<p>In the original, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin portray a pair of ghosts. The couple haunt and ultimately befriend the living family that moves into their home \u2014 particularly the daughter, Lydia. Pictures dropped on Thursday, May 23, the sequel film is clearly a blast from the past.<\/p>\n<p>Even though we have all seen Winona Ryder, Catherine O\u2019Hara, and Michael Keaton in recent projects, for many, this film was the <em>first <\/em>piece of media where people saw them.<\/p>\n<p>But Geena Davis is also alive and working on both television and film. And even if one were to ignore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/videos\/alec-baldwin-was-on-camera-when-he-learned-that-halyna-hutchins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alec Baldwin\u2019s most infamous recent film<\/a>, he, too, is alive and working. The two die at the start of the film, becoming ghosts residing in their home.<\/p>\n<p>When the Deetz family moves in, they first attempt to frighten away the family. Later, they recruit the titular Beetlejuice \u2014 a trickster demon \u2014 in the hopes of evicting the living from their home.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, the two become surrogate parents to the living family\u2019s daughter, Lydia. The famous sequence of her flying at the end is a little indulgence from her ghostly pals.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE | Official Teaser Trailer\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/e6yDanmWI1E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Tim Burton helmed that film and this one. The movie clearly has enough money to add new (legendary) actors like Willem Dafoe and Danny DeVito. <\/p>\n<p>Not to mention Jenna Ortega, who will seemingly be the one summoning Beetlejuice this time around.<\/p>\n<p>We searched high and low for any glimmer of a report or a social media hint about Geena Davis or Alec Baldwin reprising their roles. And yet there\u2019s not a whisper of either.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Beetlejuice | Top Beetlejuice Scenes | Warner Bros. Entertainment\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Y-QQJr9mtk4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>There are, ultimately, two explanations for why we might not see Davis or Baldwin appear at all in <em>Beetlejuice Beetlejuice<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The first, and most irritating, would be the reality of actors aging 35 years when ghosts clearly should not. A creative team can address that \u2014 as <em>Star Trek: Picard<\/em> did with Q \u2014 but it\u2019s an obstacle. Michael Keaton\u2019s character looked like a busted clown in 1988 and will look the same in 2024, so it\u2019s not a problem for him at all.<\/p>\n<p>But the second possibility is that it\u2019s more personal. If, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2023\/01\/alec-baldwin-formally-charged-with-involuntary-manslaughter-in-connection-with-rust-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alec Baldwin\u2019s recent drama<\/a> (an understatement) made the studio wary of controversy.<\/p>\n<p>That said \u2026 just because these two aren\u2019t in the main cast doesn\u2019t have to mean that we won\u2019t see them. It\u2019s always possible that we could see Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin in cameo roles.
