In her January memoir, Only Say Good Things: Surviving Playboy and Finding Myself<\/em>, Hugh Hefner<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s widow, Crystal Hefner<\/strong><\/a>, paints a grim picture of life at the Playboy Mansion, where she spent close to a decade during her nearly five-year marriage to the famed magazine publisher, who died at the age of 91<\/a> in 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes I imagined myself as Rapunzel, locked in her tower, waiting for someone to rescue her. But no one ever did,\u201d Crystal wrote, describing a fiercely competitive and toxic environment in which she was pitted against other Playmates by a controlling man who dictated her every move, down to what nail polish color she could wear. \u201cI didn\u2019t always know I needed to be rescued,\u201d she continued, \u201cbut I knew I was trapped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal\u2019s not the first person to liken the famed Playboy Mansion \u2014 the 22,000-square-foot L.A. spread known for its opulence and debauchery-filled A-list parties \u2014 to a prison. But during a May episode of \u201cGirls Next Level,\u201d the podcast hosted by The Girl Next Door<\/em> stars Bridget Marquardt<\/strong> and Holly Madison<\/strong>, the women \u2014 along with their guest, Hugh\u2019s 34-year-old son, Marston \u2014 took aim at Crystal, 38, and her claims.<\/p>\n

Marston went so far as to call her a \u201cmaster manipulator\u201d<\/a> and gold digger who had Hugh change his will as his mental state declined toward the end of his life.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tIt may have been over a decade since The Girls Next Door first aired on E!, but it still hasn\u2019t been forgotten quite yet. The Girls Next Door \u2014 which ran for six seasons from 2005 to 2010 \u2014 gave viewers an inside look at the eventful lives of the late Hugh Hefner\u2019s three main [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The accusations were harsh and have brought new fuel to the long-standing feud between Crystal and Holly, 44, and Bridget, 50, which began in 2009 after Holly and Hugh split and Crystal took over as Hugh\u2019s main girlfriend.<\/p>\n

Now, in an exclusive interview for Us Weekly<\/em>\u2019s cover story<\/a>, Crystal accuses Holly and Bridget of picking on her and trying to \u201csabotage\u201d and \u201cpull apart my life,\u201d adding, \u201cIf I have a problem with someone, I\u2019ll go to the person and talk to them. Obviously they just want attention.\u201d (She also says she thought she was on good terms with Marston, who was a guest on her now-defunct podcast in November 2023.)<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have never been friends,\u201d says a source of Crystal, Holly and Bridget. \u201cHolly automatically hated Crystal,\u201d the insider adds. \u201cIt\u2019s like a witch hunt against her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not the new Holly. She\u2019s the old me,\u201d Crystal said during one of her earliest appearances on The Girls Next Door,<\/em> which ran from 2005 to 2010.<\/p>\n

In the years since the show went off the air, both Crystal and Holly have separately stated they believe the hit E! reality series purposely created discord between them. \u201cTheir initial feud was over status at the Mansion,\u201d says the source. \u201cHolly wanted to be Mrs. Hefner so badly. She was bitter.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2021, tension between fellow The Girls Next Door<\/em> alum Kendra Wilkinson<\/strong> and Holly picked up after Holly talked about the \u201ccutthroat\u201d dynamics between women at the Mansion (in response, Kendra said she\u2019d moved on from the drama).<\/p>\n

Crystal put further distance between herself and Holly when she publicly aligned herself with Kendra. \u201cI side with Kendra here,\u201d Crystal said via social media. \u201cNot sure why these women who shared an incredibly uncommon and rare experience\u2026 can\u2019t get along? Maybe for the same reasons Holly and Bridget despise me for absolutely no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marston said Crystal was obsessed with power and claimed she controlled the guest list of who could come and go from the Mansion (he said she exiled longtime friends of his dad\u2019s).<\/p>\n

\u201cYou knew to be a little scared sometimes, to not get on her bad side,\u201d Marston noted. The first source says budget cuts at Playboy caused Hugh\u2019s inner circle to shrink. Adds the second source: \u201cCrystal was a true wife of the house, she had a lot of say and she could call the shots.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, Crystal insists Hugh was \u201cking of the castle [and] whoever he wanted to see, that\u2019s who he was around.\u201d Added Crystal, \u201cSometimes when a woman speaks up, she\u2019s called harsh \u2014 especially by people who no longer benefit from her staying quiet \u2014 and controlling by people who can no longer control her.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Marston\u2019s comments that Crystal invited strangers to Hugh\u2019s funeral, she says: \u201cI invited his close friends and his office. I\u2019m the one who watched Hugh die; they didn\u2019t. Marston came by, but [his kids] weren\u2019t with him 24-7.\u201d (Hugh passed away at home from sepsis brought on by an E. coli infection.) Adds Crystal: \u201cI was married to him. I was closest to Hef.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marston also accused Crystal of having Hugh make changes to his will (so she could receive more money) while he was in a fragile mental state. \u201c[He] doesn\u2019t know where he is, why is he changing his f\u2013king will?\u201d asked Marston. Crystal says Hef had an estate attorney, adding, \u201cWhatever Hef decided to do or change, that\u2019s up to him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal also addresses Martson\u2019s claims that his father was \u201cdosed with f\u2013king medication,\u201d explaining that she herself doesn\u2019t take any prescription medication. \u201cI try not to. If I don\u2019t feel well, I\u2019ll take supplements. I am against all of it. So I wanted him to be on as least as possible of any of that type of thing,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Crystal adds that Hugh was \u201cvery sharp,\u201d saying, \u201cI mean, it\u2019s sad to discredit this person that has one of the highest IQs in the world and just created this entire empire. And then saying that he\u2019s not credible, it\u2019s like nothing got past him.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the characterization that Marston made of Hugh, Crystal expresses sadness. \u201cI feel that obviously he has a lot of pain and hurt still from the relationship or lack thereof with his father,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd there are some things I think he\u2019s trying to heal or get answers to that he\u2019s realizing may never be answered. So maybe he\u2019s filling in the blanks themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Crystal tells Us<\/em> she has no hard feelings against Holly and Bridget or Marston, whom she spoke to after hearing about their podcast. According to Crystal, he \u201cbackpedaled\u201d on certain statements and claimed things were taken out of context.<\/p>\n
