Katy Perry<\/strong><\/a> compared American Idol<\/em><\/a> winner Abi Carter<\/strong>\u2019s voice to Ariana Grande<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 which is the highest compliment she can give.<\/p>\n

Perry, 39, said Carter\u2019s \u201cvoice is unlike anything\u201d in pop music while discussing the contestant\u2019s win following Idol<\/em>\u2019s season 22 finale on Sunday, May 19.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last time I said that, I said that about Ariana Grande when she went on The Ellen Show<\/em>,\u201d Perry told Extra<\/em>. \u201cLike, \u2018Oh, this girl is the best singer of our generation.\u2019 I don\u2019t say that lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Season 22 marked Perry\u2019s last foray as a judge on the singing competition show, which she has appeared on since its 2018 reboot. Instead, she intends to focus on her music and release a new album following 2020\u2019s Smile<\/em>.<\/p>\n

While Perry is forfeiting her spot at the judge\u2019s table, she previously revealed her idea for her perfect replacement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI gotta say Jelly Roll<\/strong> was crazy when he came on the show. I was convinced at anything he said,\u201d she told E! News<\/em><\/a> in April. \u201cHe could run for president, he could be my pastor, I might go back to church for him. He could sell me anything \u2026 To have any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing. I love you, Jelly!\u201d<\/p>\n

Jelly Roll, 39, has been a good sport about the suggestion, gushing that \u201cof course\u201d he would love to join the judges\u2019 table with Luke Bryan<\/strong> and Lionel Richie<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsider? I\u2019ve accepted the job and they haven\u2019t offered it,\u201d Jelly Roll joked when asked at Stagecoach in April about whether he\u2019d consider the gig.<\/p>\n

ABC has not yet announced who will take Perry\u2019s spot when the show returns for Season 23.<\/p>\n
