The \u2018Friends\u2019 star was found dead aged 54 in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023, with an autopsy revealing he had been killed by the \u201cacute effects of ketamine\u201d.<\/p>\n
Local police and federal agents are now said to be trying to identify where the actor \u2013 who spent years battling drink and drug addictions \u2013 bought the drug, according to TMZ.<\/p>\n
The outlet reported on Tuesday (21.05.24): \u201cLaw enforcement sources tell us there is an ongoing investigation into where Matthew got the ketamine that ended up playing a part in his death \u2013 and the main questions are who provided the drug, and under what circumstances.\u201d<\/p>\n
Its report went on: \u201cOur sources say both local police and the DEA have been looking into this matter for months, but it\u2019s unclear where exactly investigators are in the probe.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe do know they\u2019ve already interviewed some key people in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWhile our sources could not provide names they told us investigators have approached and spoken to people who are known to have a history of drug use or abuse.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cWe\u2019re told those people are not necessarily the actual source of ketamine, but they could have information leading to the source. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cSo far, no arrests have been made.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe LA County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office revealed in December Matthew\u2019s death was drug related.<\/p>\n
\nDrowning, coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects were also listed as other contributing factors in his passing.<\/p>\n
\nAt the time, a medical expert speculated to Page Six the actor had \u201clikely\u201d obtained ketamine illegally for \u201crecreational use\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nEven though Matthew was undergoing ketamine treatment for anxiety and depression at the time of his passing, his autopsy report noted \u201cthe ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nMatthew\u2019s \u2018Friends\u2019 co-stars have continued to honour him since his death, with his on-screen lover Courteney Cox, 59, telling \u2018CBS Sunday Morning\u2019 this weekend she thinks he still \u201cvisits\u201d her \u2013 adding: \u201cI sense Matthew\u2019s around for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
