Abi Carter<\/strong> is officially the winner<\/a> of\u00a0American Idol<\/em><\/a> season 22! After the May 19, 2024, finale, Abi beat\u00a0Will Moseley<\/strong> and\u00a0Jack Blocker<\/strong> to win the season.<\/p>\n Abi is a singer from Indio, California, who competed on season 12 of American Idol<\/em>. She was 21 years old at the time she competed on the singing competition show.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Abi earned her spot in the top 3 on American Idol<\/em> after the May 5, 2024, episode, where she performed \u201cHello\u201d by Adele<\/strong> and \u201cMy Songs Know What You Did in the Dark\u201d by Fall Out Boy. She then continued to impress the judges to make it to the live shows, where America began voting for their favorites.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Abi revealed during her Idol<\/em> audition that she is the \u201csecond oldest of seven kids.\u201d She grew up with a single mom and said her mother \u201cpractically\u201d raised all seven children herself.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI came from a very religious family,\u201d Abi shared on her first episode of American Idol<\/em>. While she didn\u2019t specify her religion, she later sang \u201cOceans (Where Feet May Fall)\u201d for one of her performances, which is a Christian gospel song by Hillsong UNITED.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Abi attended California State University, San Bernardino. She graduated summa cum laude in May 2023 with a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology, according to the school\u2019s website.<\/span><\/p>\n In high school, Abi was homeschooled, which allowed her to get a job to help support her large family. \u201cI went to Washington Charter [School] up until third grade and from there I was homeschooled,\u201d Abi shared in a March 2024 interview. \u201cI went to less than one semester at La Quinta High School and it was during that time that my parents separated. My mom had to start going back to school to get a degree to support all of us.
