The actress, 58, played Miranda Hobbes in the HBO show from 1998 and 2004 and has revived the role in its spin-off \u2018And Just Like That\u2019 alongside her original co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Kim Cattrall<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cynthia \u2013 whose character has come out as gay in \u2018And Just Like That\u2019 \u2013 told Page Six about being trolled over the show: \u201cPeople have always been very passionate about \u2018Sex and the City\u2019 and now \u2018And Just Like That\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like \u2018Sex and the City\u2019 is now so enshrined in memory and sentimentality but people hated us at first.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey kept saying over and over, \u2018These aren\u2019t really women, these are gay men in disguise. Women don\u2019t talk like this. Women don\u2019t talk about sex like this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\nCynthia said she thinks it is great the creators of \u2018And Just Like That\u2019 have continued to produce edgy material despite critics.<\/p>\n

\nShe added: \u201cI think that\u2019s what\u2019s so great about \u2018And Just Like That\u2019. We keep pushing the boundaries. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe\u2019re not going to do the same old stuff that was once shocking that you\u2019ve now got used to.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShooting recently started on the third series of \u2018And Just Like That\u2019, after it came under fire in the first season over the non-binary character Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramirez.<\/p>\n

\nFans were upset Miranda was seen splitting from her husband on the show, Steve Brady, to follow Che to California \u2013 though the couple split in the second series of the show and the actor won\u2019t be in the third season.<\/p>\n

\nActor Che, 48, who identifies as non-binary, told The New York Times about the storm: \u201cI\u2019m very aware of the hate that exists online. But I have to protect my own mental health and my own artistry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\u201cAnd that\u2019s way more important to me because I\u2019m a real human being. I\u2019m really proud of the representation that we\u2019ve created.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWe have built a character who is a human being, who is imperfect, who\u2019s complex, who is not here to be liked, who\u2019s not here for anybody\u2019s approval. They\u2019re here to be themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
