It\u2019s really impressive, kind of weird, and both delightful and creepy? I\u2019m so torn. But the tech is impressive, and every AI app I\u2019ve seen is already rushing to support GPT-4o.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/gpt-4o-and-more-tools-to-chatgpt-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ChatGPT for Mac<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>Desktop AI chat apps are a dime a dozen and mostly all just wrappers on a webpage. But the new ChatGPT app is a bit more: it lets you share your screen and ask questions about it, which strikes me as a very handy way to get AI help with something. \u201cHow do I fix this?\u201d is a question I ask ChatGPT a lot.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dju-gsWdqBVk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Historical AI &amp; Rewriting the Past on TikTok<\/strong><\/a>.\u201d Have you seen those videos on TikTok of an AI-generated emperor or whatever, telling you a salacious story about world history? They\u2019re fun! And messy! And frequently just lies! Love this video on how it all happened and what it all means.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=nOD\/rLJHOac&amp;mid=13923&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lego.com%2Fen-us%2Fproduct%2Fthe-lord-of-the-rings-barad-dur-10333%3FCMP%3DAFC-AffiliateUS-nOD%2FrLJHOac-3430747-1182053-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Lego Barad-d\u00fbr<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>Five thousand, four hundred and seventy-one pieces. Pair this with<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/deeplink?id=nOD\/rLJHOac&amp;mid=13923&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.lego.com%2Fen-us%2Fproduct%2Fthe-lord-of-the-rings-rivendell-10316%3FCMP%3DAFC-AffiliateUS-nOD%2FrLJHOac-3430747-1182053-10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the Rivendell set<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>Lego <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23588895\/lego-rivendell-lord-of-the-rings-lotr-pictures-price-release-date\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released last year<\/a>, and you\u2019ll spend about $1,000 and one very happy lifetime putting together a truly epic <em>Lord of the Rings<\/em> setup.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/websearch\/answer\/2466433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Google\u2019s \u201cWeb\u201d filter<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong> I have a lot of big-picture thoughts about what AI is doing to web search and what that means for the internet, but I also just miss when Google was a bunch of links and not a thousand videos, X posts, and shopping links. The new \u201cWeb\u201d filter is like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/5\/14\/24074314\/google-now-offers-web-search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">old Google brought back to life<\/a> \u2014 not right for everything but very useful.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><strong>\u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DHGktY1dytCw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u200b\u200bI Started a New Business. It Didn\u2019t Go Well\u2026<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u201d <\/strong>I\u2019m a fan of Ali Abdaal\u2019s (he was in <em>Installer<\/em> a while back!) and really loved this video. He shares a lot of the kinds of stories you don\u2019t hear about building products, failure, mistakes, challenges, and what happens when you just get it wrong. There\u2019s not actually a ton to the game itself, but it\u2019s a pretty great mixed reality tech demo, and these things are just fun to play around with.<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/go.skimresources.com\/?id=1025X1701640&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fapps.apple.com%2Fus%2Fapp%2Fretroarch%2Fid6499539433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RetroArch<\/strong><\/a>. The latest in an increasingly long list of great emulator apps coming to the iPhone. Bebop just pipes stuff into a folder of text files, which you can read with any other app you want. Each hour-long episode is about a different tree, and for hosts, you have a dendrologist (Casey Clapp) paired with a musician \/ comedian (Alex Crowson) who stands in for the novice listener. Talk about evergreen content. (sorry)<\/li>\n<li class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup mb-16 pl-12 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1\">I\u2019m eagerly awaiting my preorder of Robin Sloan\u2019s new novel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.robinsloan.com\/moonbound\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><strong>Moonbound<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. This happens startlingly regularly: I\u2019m at the bookstore when a cover catches my eye. I read the flap copy and first few pages and get sucked right in. Then, I flip over to the back, and there it is: a Robin Sloan blurb. Robin has such a singular taste for the interestingly weird \/ weirdly interesting. It\u2019s an infinite excuse to watch TV shows I\u2019ve already seen 100 times! I\u2019ve realized I have a rotation, not on purpose but somehow quite rigid: I watch <em>The Office<\/em>, then I watch <em>Parks and Recreation, <\/em>then I watch <em>New Girl, <\/em>then I watch <em>Community. <\/em>Sometimes one all the way through and then the next, sometimes a couple of episodes and then bounce around, but it\u2019s almost always in that order.
