Dabney Coleman, the popular comic actor from 9 to 5 & Tootsie whose many redeeming qualities including a knack for portraying characters who had none, has died. He was 92.<\/p>\n

Coleman died Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, his daughter told The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,\u201d she said. \u201cAs he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery.<\/p>\n

The Emmy-winning actor also portrayed a talk show host on the TV series Buffalo Bill, but that critical favorite lasted just 26 episodes.<\/p>\n

He had at least three other cracks at headlining his own sitcom, but The Slap Maxwell Story, Drexell\u2019s Class and Madman of the People never made it through their first seasons before being canceled.<\/p>\n

More recently, the actor played the owner of a law firm and father of Simon Baker\u2019s character on the drama The Guardian; an Atlantic City power broker on Boardwalk Empire; and the father of Kevin Costner\u2019s character on Yellowstone.<\/p>\n
