The 83-year-old \u2018Bonnie and Clyde\u2019 actress tells of her health woe in the new HBO documentary about her life titled \u2018Faye\u2019 and explains how she was put on medication for the condition after being probed by doctors.<\/p>\n

She says in the movie: \u201cI worked with a group of doctors who analysed my behaviour, who gave me prescriptions for pills they thought would be good for me. And that helped. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo I am quieter. But throughout my career, people know there were tough times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Faye gained a reputation for being \u201cdifficult\u201d in Hollywood \u2013 with her fellow acting veteran Bette Davis<\/a>, who died aged 81 in 1989, once telling chat show host Johnny Carson she was \u201cimpossible\u201d and \u201cuncooperative\u201d on set.<\/p>\n

\nThe \u2018Chinatown\u2019 star adds in her new film about her temperament: \u201cI don\u2019t mean to make an excuse about it, I am still responsible for my actions. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cBut this is what I came to understand, was the reason for them. It\u2019s something you need to be aware of, you need to try to do the right thing to take care of it.<\/p>\n

\n\u201c(My mental health is) a sensitivity and it\u2019s something that is just a part of my makeup \u2026 Thank God there is medication and there are studies, and there are doctors who deal with this and I\u2019ve been able to benefit from that. Medication is crucial and without it, you fall back into what is there psychologically and biologically.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\u2018Faye\u2019 is directed by Laurent Bouzereau, 62, and features interviews with actors Sharon Stone, 66, and Mickey Rourke, 71, as well as 55-year-old director James Gray.<\/p>\n

\nThe film tells of Faye\u2019s childhood and rise to fame in classics including \u2018Network\u2019.<\/p>\n

\nHer son Liam Dunaway O\u2019Neill, 43, who Faye had with British photographer Terry O\u2019Neill, 81, also appears in the documentary, saying: \u201cIf she wasn\u2019t in so much pain, would she have been that good? You have to take the good with the bad, that\u2019s just life.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
