While filming Bridgerton<\/i><\/a>\u2019s third season, Nicola Coughlan<\/strong><\/a> had a special request: more nudity, please.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coughlan, 37, who plays Penelope Featherton, a.k.a. secret gossip columnist \u201cLady Whistledown\u201d in the steamy Netflix series, told Stylist<\/i><\/span><\/a> magazine in an interview released on Wednesday, May 15, that she wanted to be nude during a love scene with costar Luke Newton<\/strong> (Colin Bridgerton).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included,\u201d she explained. \u201cThere\u2019s one scene where I\u2019m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt just felt like the biggest \u2018f\u2014k you\u2019 to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cI felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: \u2018When I\u2019m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f\u2014king hot I looked!\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Julia Quinn books that inspired the hit Netflix series, the second eldest Bridgerton brother would be up next, but in May 2022, Nicola Coughlan confirmed that the romance in the fourth [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Recently, Coughlan revealed to The Los Angeles<\/i><\/span> <\/i>Times<\/i><\/span><\/a> that she had been nervous to film a sex scene \u2014\u00a0her first-ever \u2014\u00a0that required her to wear a strapless thong. When she tried it on, \u201cI went to the bathroom and looked in the full-length mirror,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI was like, \u2018Absolutely not.\u2019 I hid it down the bottom of the laundry basket. I was like, \u2018How am I going to do this?\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The experience proved easier than she thought it would be. \u201cBy the end of the day, we were both lying under a blanket, not clothed, just chillin.\u2019 We were like, \u2018This is why nudists do it.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The romance between Penelope and Colin features prominently in Bridgerton<\/i> season 3, which begins streaming Thursday, May 16. In previous seasons, Coughlan\u2019s character had harbored an unrequited crush on the younger son of the Bridgerton family.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bridgerton<\/i>\u2019s new showrunner, Jess Brownell<\/strong>, has explained the reason<\/span><\/a> behind the decision to focus on the duo this time around.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI really feel like it\u2019s Colin and Penelope\u2019s time. Because we\u2019ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we\u2019ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,\u201d she said in 2022. \u201cI feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it\u2019s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn\u2019t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
