The Northern Irish-born golf champion, 35, who first met New Yorker Erica, 36, in 2012 at the Ryder Cup \u2013 and with whom he has three-year-old daughter Poppy Kennedy \u2013 cited in his split papers their marriage was \u201cirretrievably broken\u201d.<\/p>\n
Rory, who married Erica in 2017, filed his divorce papers on Monday (13.05.24), with TMZ first to report on the break-up.<\/p>\n
Page Six added Rory\u2019s representative \u201cconfirmed divorce documents had been filed on Monday after seven years of marriage\u201d.<\/p>\n
Rory filed to end the marriage in Florida.<\/p>\n
\nHis representative added to Page Six Rory wanted to \u201censure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible\u201d and pointed out \u201che will not be making any further comment\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nTennis fanatic Erica was working as a PGA transport official when she met Rory in 2012.<\/p>\n
\nDuring a 2019 interview with the Golf Channel, Rory recalled meeting her when she got him a police escort to his course after he overslept.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cErica, that week, was always the one that was checking us in and out. \u201cShe was there at transportation, so she was always in the car park over there.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut yeah, it\u2019s still cool to look around and think about that week and, obviously, everything that\u2019s happened since then. It\u2019s pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRory married Erica in 2017 at a lavish star-studded wedding at the medieval Ashford Castle in Ireland, with his nuptials costing a reported $250,000.<\/p>\n
\nDetails of the ceremony were kept under wraps, with guests including Stevie Wonder, Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran and Chris Martin. <\/p>\n
\nBy 2020, Rory and Erica revealed they were expecting their first child together when the golfer\u2019s wife was in her third trimester, and they had daughter Poppy in August that year.<\/p>\n
\nFour-time majors champion Rory marked her birth on Instagram by sharing a black-and-white photo of the infant holding his finger.<\/p>\n
\nHe captioned the post in September 2020: \u201cPoppy Kennedy McIlroy, born August 31st, 12.15pm. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cShe is the absolute love of our lives. Mother and baby are doing great. Massive thank you to all the staff at Jupiter Medical Center and Dr Sasha Melendy for their amazing care (three red heart emojis.)\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRory infamously split from tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, 33, in 2014 months before they were due to wed. <\/p>\n
\nHe is said to have dumped his then-fianc\u00e9e in a three-minute phone call hours after telling her he loved her. <\/p>\n
\nHis divorce filing from Erica came a day after he won in Charlotte, North Carolina \u2013 his second straight PGA Tour win and the 26th of his career.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
