The shock jock, 70, was targeted by the \u2018Seinfeld\u2019 comic, 70, during a recent appearance on his friends\u2019 Dana Carvey and David Spade\u2019s \u2018Fly on the Wall\u2019 podcast \u2013 and has said he was immediately filled with regret for taking a swipe at his old friend \u2018Howie\u2019.<\/p>\n
Nearly a week after Jerry\u2019s dig was reported, Howard has now said: \u201cJerry is a personal friend of ours. Especially his wife, Jessica, is really good friends with (my wife) Beth.\u201d<\/p>\n
Page Six said Howard did say he initially thought Jerry\u2019s mockery was \u201cweird\u201d, but added he was going to cut him slack as he thought the comedian had a \u201creally bad week\u201d in the wake of the comments emerging.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201c(Jerry) called me immediately and was like, \u2018Oh, f***, I f***** up, and I want to apologise. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe goes, \u2018You know when you\u2019re on the air, and s*** just comes out wrong?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHoward said he told Jerry on the call: \u201cYou don\u2019t even have to (say sorry.) Please. This is embarrassing. I\u2019m the king of going on the air and having millions of regrets afterward. Apology accepted, I don\u2019t care, and you know what? If I\u2019m not a comedian, I\u2019m an interviewer, I don\u2019t know what I am. I always considered myself a bit of a comedian, but whatever it is, don\u2019t worry about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJerry \u2013 who \u201capologised for a really long time\u201d \u2013 then asked to come on the \u2018Howard Stern Show\u2019 to explain his comment.<\/p>\n
\nBut Howard added: \u201cI said, \u2018Not necessary, I don\u2019t wanna get into it. It\u2019s awkward, it\u2019s fine.\u2019 <\/p>\n
\n\u201cI said, \u2018I\u2019ve had to apologise to you for s*** I\u2019ve said. I\u2019ve had to call up people and apologize for s*** I\u2019ve done on the air when I\u2019m a huge fan of these people. I don\u2019t know what gets into me, I f*** up sometimes\u2026 (I) didn\u2019t really think much about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJerry issued an apology to Howard on 8 May straight after appearing on Dana and David\u2019s podcast.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI really feel bad for what I said about my friend Howard Stern\u2026 talking about the glut of comedy podcasts.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt was bad and I\u2019m sorry, Howie. I still love you. Please forgive me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nWhile discussing the popularity of podcasting with Dana and David, Jerry had asked his two fellow comedians: \u201cHoward Stern invented this, right? But we\u2019re better than him now.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHoward is interesting. Howard is a great interviewer, but comedy chops, I mean, can we speak candidly?\u2026 let\u2019s face it, he\u2019s been outflanked by some very, and yourselves, I mean absolutely, this show, comedy podcast. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cThis is the best one on the air. Because you guys play nice together, it\u2019s smooth, you\u2019re not jumping on each other, which is annoying to listen to.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
