Olivia Munn<\/strong><\/a> revealed she had her embryos frozen before a full hysterectomy amid her \u201caggressive\u201d breast cancer battle<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI have now had an oophorectomy and hysterectomy. I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries,\u201d Olivia, 43, told Vogue<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Sunday, May 12, noting the procedure happened last month.<\/p>\n The actress said it was a \u201cbig decision\u201d to undergo the procedure as she was previously taking estrogen-suppressing drug Lupron, which halted her ovaries from producing estrogen but also simultaneously drained all her energy. She came to the decision after her son, Malcolm, whom she shares with partner John Mulaney<\/strong>, pointed to her bed when asked what his mother did for work.<\/p>\n The hysterectomy surgery, which is a surgical procedure to remove the uterus, was an alternative to the drug, marking her fifth significant surgery in her cancer battle.<\/p>\n \u201cBut it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family. I had friends try to cheer me up by saying, \u2018Malcolm\u2019s not going to remember this. Don\u2019t worry,\u2019\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cBut I just kept thinking to myself, \u2018I\u2019m going to remember this, that I missed all these things.\u2019 It\u2019s his childhood, but it\u2019s my motherhood, and I don\u2019t want to miss any of these parts if I don\u2019t have to.\u201d<\/p>\n The New Girl<\/em> alum revealed she and John didn\u2019t feel like they \u201cwere done growing their family\u201d and underwent a trial of egg retrievals after finding out about her diagnosis in April 2023. Instead of turning to hormones to hyperovulate, which could encourage nascent cancer cells to grow, she was put on a special cancer protocol for the egg retrieval.<\/p>\n \u201cA few hours later, we got the call from my doctor. He shared that we had two healthy embryos. John and I just started crying,\u201d the X-Men<\/em> actress shared. \u201cIt was just so exciting because not only did we get it in one retrieval, but it also meant that I didn\u2019t have to keep putting myself at risk. It was just amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n Olivia went public with her cancer diagnosis in March<\/a>, telling her fans she had an \u201caggressive\u201d form of bilateral breast cancer. \u201cI went from feeling completely fine one day, to waking up in a hospital bed after a 10-hour surgery the next,\u201d she wrote in a lengthy Instagram post. \u201cI\u2019m lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day.\u201d<\/p>\n While Olivia said she was not someone who was afraid of death \u201cin any way,\u201d the most frightening part was thinking about her son.<\/p>\n \u201cHaving a little baby at home made everything much more terrifying,\u201d the Magic Mike<\/em> star told People<\/em><\/a> in April. \u201c\u200bYou realize cancer doesn\u2019t care who you are; it doesn\u2019t care if you have a baby or if you don\u2019t have time.
