Nemo has won the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old singer claimed victory in the Swedish city of Malmo, after overcoming stiff competition from Croatia’s Baby Lasagna to win the competition.<\/p>\n

After being announced as this year’s winner, Nemo said: “I want to say thank you so much. I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person in this world.”<\/p>\n

Nemo – who finished with a total of 591 points – subsequently performed a celebratory version of his title-clinching track ‘The Code’.<\/p>\n

Nemo’s victory also means that the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be staged in Switzerland in 2025.<\/p>\n

\nElsewhere, Croatia – which was among the pre-show favourites – finished in second place on the Eurovision points table.<\/p>\n

\nBaby Lasagna – whose real name is Misarko Purisic – impressed fans with the track ‘Rim Tim Tagi Dim’, which centres on the issue of young Croatians leaving the country in search of a better life.<\/p>\n

\nHowever, the Croatian entrant ultimately fell agonisingly short of winning the Eurovsion crown, with a points total of 547.<\/p>\n

\nThe top five on the points table was rounded out by Ukraine, France and Israel.<\/p>\n

\nMeanwhile, Olly Alexander, the British entrant, failed to threaten the table-toppers, earning just 46 from the juries and zero points in the public vote.<\/p>\n

\nOlly, 33 – who is best known for starring in the band Years and Years – previously acknowledged that his chances of success were slim.<\/p>\n

\nThe singer – who performed a track called ‘Dizzy’ – told the BBC earlier this month: “My odds for winning are at one percent. But that\u2019s fine. It\u2019s better than zero.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
