Elon Musk<\/strong><\/a> was booed off stage by the audience at Dave Chappelle<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s most recent show.<\/p>\n \u201cLadies and gentlemen, make some noise for the richest man in the world,\u201d the comedian, 49, announced while introducing the Tesla CEO, 51, during his Sunday, December 11, stand-up show in San Francisco. The crowd immediately erupted<\/a> into both cheers and jeers, with the boos soon drowning out any applause.<\/p>\n Chappelle \u2014 who came under fire for transphobic jokes<\/a> in October 2021 \u2014 made several jokes about the awkward situation on stage.<\/p>\n \u201cSounds like some of those people you fired are in the audience,\u201d he quipped to Musk, who made headlines in November for firing dozens of Twitter employees after taking over the social media app. The SpaceX founder also got head when he made jokes about pronouns over the weekend.<\/p>\n \u201cAll these people who are booing \u2014 and I\u2019m just pointing out the obvious \u2014 they have terrible seats,\u201d Chappelle continued, attempting to joke with Musk about getting a \u201cjet pack\u201d from him and wanting to own the first comedy club on Mars.<\/p>\n At one point, Musk imitated Chappelle\u2019s famous Rick James impression, yelling out, per CNN<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m rich, bitch!\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the attempt to go on with Musk\u2019s surprise appearance, the crowd made it impossible. When the South Africa native asked the former Chappelle Show<\/em> host what he should say, the Half Baked actor replied, \u201cDon\u2019t say anything. You hear that, Elon?\u201d he quipped. \u201cit\u2019s the sound of pending civil unrest.\u201d Then, addressing the audience, Chappelle asked: \u201cWill you shut the f\u2014k up with your boos?\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cBooing is not the best thing you can do. I wish everybody in this auditorium the joy of feeling free and may your pursuit of happiness set you free. Amen.\u201d<\/p>\n Musk later took to Twitter<\/a> on Monday, December 12, to address the audience\u2019s response.<\/p>\n \u201cTechnically, it was 90% cheers & 10% boos (except during quiet periods), but, still, that\u2019s a lot of boos, which is a first for me in real life (frequent on Twitter),\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s almost as if I\u2019ve offended SF\u2019s unhinged leftists \u2026 but nahhh.\u201d<\/p>\n The billionaire frequently causes a stir with his provocative comments on the platform as well as his controversial decree to promote \u201cfree speech\u201d on the app, which included reviving former President Donald Trump<\/a><\/strong> and Kanye West<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s accounts after they were suspended. (In the wake of West\u2019s repeated antisemitic remarks<\/a> in November, his account has once again been suspended.) Many celebrities \u2014 including Gigi Hadid<\/strong><\/a>, Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong><\/a>, Jim Carrey<\/strong><\/a> and more \u2014 have voiced their contention with Musk after his Twitter takeover and have left the site in droves.<\/p>\n Chappelle, meanwhile, faced backlash last year after the October 2021 release of his The Closer<\/em> special for Netflix, during which he made several transphobic comments. Many employees of the streaming service staged a walkout in response.<\/p>\n Seven months later, in May, Chappelle was attacked on stage<\/a> by an audience member while performing at the Netflix Is a Joke festival in May.
