Princess Diana<\/strong><\/a> and John Travolta<\/strong> made history when they danced together at the White House in 1985, but few might recall that Magnum, P.I. <\/i>star Tom Selleck<\/strong><\/a> also took her for a spin on the dance floor.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his new memoir, You Never Know<\/i>, Selleck, 79 \u2014\u00a0who played mustachioed TV detective Thomas Magnum for eight seasons in the 1980s \u2014\u00a0recalled dancing with the Princess of Wales at a state dinner thrown in honor of her and her then-husband, Prince Charles<\/strong> (now King Charles III<\/strong>). President Ronald Reagan<\/strong> and First Lady Nancy Reagan<\/strong> hosted the November 9 soiree, inviting three Hollywood actors: Selleck, Travolta, 70, and Clint Eastwood<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Selleck remembered being \u201canxious\u201d to meet Charles, now 75, and the late Diana, though he quickly relaxed in their presence, Hello!<\/i><\/span><\/a> reported. Both royals put him at ease and he found Diana to be \u201ccharming, graceful, and beautiful\u201d while Charles impressed him with his ability \u201cof making you feel like you were important to him in your moment together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After dinner, the gala guests moved into the East Room, where Travolta twirled Diana and showed off his famous footwork. The princess grinned from ear to ear and stunned in an off-the-shoulder, dark blue Victor Edelstein gown that became known as the \u201cTravolta dress.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tPrincess Diana is memorable for many reasons, one of which is her style. Whether the Princess of Wales dressed casually in a pair of jeans or went full glam in a gown, she always did so with style and grace.\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Soon, a woman approached Selleck with an urgent request. According to the actor, she was \u201cspeaking very rapidly\u201d and asked him to cut in.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Travolta and the princess are dancing for a second time together,\u201d she told Selleck, according to his autobiography<\/a>, released earlier this month. \u201cWe can\u2019t have that. We don\u2019t want to start rumors, do we? Mr. Selleck, you must step in and replace him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019M NOT CUTTING IN ON JOHN TRAVOLTA!\u201d he replied, recounting how he spoke with \u201cprobably too loud a voice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ultimately, he caved to the woman\u2019s demand and hit the floor with Diana. She \u201cwas lovely,\u201d he wrote, \u201cand there was a very shy quality about her in spite of her being well schooled in the art of conversation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Still, Diana managed to diffuse the awkwardness with friendly small talk.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI gotta say she seemed to be having the time of her life,\u201d he added. \u201cI was relieved she talked most of the time. Let\u2019s just say it was not my finest hour as a conversationalist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
