Nick Carter<\/strong><\/a> is maintaining his innocence after he was accused of sexual assault by multiple women.<\/p>\n

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly<\/em>, Carter filed a motion for summary judgment on Tuesday, May 7, against Shannon Ruth<\/strong>, who previously filed a lawsuit against the singer claiming he raped her when she was 17 years old. In the filing, Carter\u2019s legal team claimed that Ruth was \u201cdesperate for her two minutes of fame.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRuth\u2019s goal was simple \u2014 gain as much attention as possible in hopes that Carter would be canceled. For a brief moment it worked,\u201d the filing read. \u201cABC canceled the Backstreet Boys\u2019 Christmas special, A Very Backstreet Holiday<\/em>, and Carter was left fighting for his innocence and his family. Now, over a year later, Carter has obtained all of the evidence necessary to prove that he has been telling the truth all along \u2014 he did not rape Ruth or anyone else for that matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter\u2019s lawyers alleged that Ruth, along with other women accusing him of sexual assault including Melissa Schuman<\/strong> and plaintiff identified as A.R. have \u201corchestrated\u201d the allegations as part of a \u201cplan to garner fame and extort Carter out of money.\u201d Carter and his team also accused Ruth of fabricating her testimony, claiming it was a \u201cfactual impossibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAs a member of one of the only boy bands with true longevity, Nick Carter has seen it all. Despite his success with the Backstreet Boys, Carter has experienced turmoil in his personal life. In January 2002, he was arrested in Florida and charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting\/opposing a law enforcement officer without [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Us<\/em> has reached out to Ruth, Schuman and A.R. for comment.<\/p>\n

In December 2022, Ruth sued Carter for sexual battery<\/a> and accused him of assaulting her following a 2001 Backstreet Boys concert. Ruth claimed the musician invited her to join him on his tour bus while she was waiting in line for an autograph after the show, per docs obtained by Us<\/em>. She alleged that Carter exposed himself to her and had her perform oral sex on him \u201cunder duress.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter vehemently denied the allegations. \u201cThis claim about an incident that supposedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally meritless but also entirely untrue,\u201d the musician\u2019s rep told Us in a statement in December 2022. \u201cUnfortunately, for several years now, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick \u2013 and those allegations have changed repeatedly and materially over time. No one should be fooled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer \u2013 there is nothing to this claim whatsoever, which we have no doubt the courts will quickly realize.\u201d<\/p>\n

At a hearing in Las Vegas in March 2023, a judge ruled that Carter could file a counterclaim against Ruth after he alleged that she falsely accused him in an extortion attempt.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tNick Carter\u00a0was\u00a0named in a December 2022 lawsuit alleging he assaulted an underage teenage girl nearly 21 years earlier. Shannon Ruth claimed in her court filing that the Backstreet Boys crooner forcibly raped her after she attended a February 2001 concert in Tacoma, Washington. Ruth, who is on the autism spectrum and has cerebral palsy, alleged [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ruth is not the only person to accuse Carter of sexual assault. Last year, Schuman, who was a singer for the girl group Dream, also sued Carter for sexual assault and battery<\/a>. In the lawsuit, Melissa claimed that Carter allegedly performed oral sex on her and made her do the same to him despite her protests before he raped her.<\/p>\n
