The rhythm action game featured music by The Black Keys and Nine Inch Nails, with an art style that evoked the hyper-stylized games of the PS2 era. Just four months after its release, <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/hifiRush\/status\/1691846131548913781\" target=\"_blank\">hit 3 million players<\/a>. During the 2023\u20132024 awards season, the game went on to win a Game Award, a Game Developers Choice award, and a BAFTA. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">While Microsoft hasn\u2019t shared sales data, it was apparently happy with the game. When rumors swirled that it wasn\u2019t doing well commercially, Aaron Greenberg, vice president of Xbox games marketing, wrote on X that <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em> \u201cwas a break out hit for us and our players in all key measurements and expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">By all accounts, including Microsoft\u2019s own, Tango Gameworks made a hit and something <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/23589879\/hi-fi-rush-making-of-interview-xbox\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wholly unlike anything it\u2019s made before<\/a>. In <a href=\"https:\/\/game.watch.impress.co.jp\/docs\/interview\/1533808.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an interview with <em>Game Watch<\/em><\/a>, a Japanese video game media outlet, Spencer praised <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em> for its \u201chigh quality\u201d and said that players could \u201cexpect\u201d to see more AAA titles from Japan, evoking the days when <em>Lost Odyssey<\/em> and <em>Blue Dragon<\/em> were both exclusives on the Xbox 360. \u201cWhile there are titles we can\u2019t announce yet,\u201d Spencer said in the September 2023 interview, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.videogameschronicle.com\/news\/xbox-players-can-expect-more-japanese-aaa-exclusives-phil-spencer-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">translated by <em>VGC<\/em><\/a>, \u201cwe are currently developing new games in collaboration with Japanese companies.\u201d It\u2019s worth wondering if that\u2019s still the plan now that Tango is shut down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">Right now, small single-player games like <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em> are having a huge moment. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/24082252\/balatro-review-poker-roguelike-videogame\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Balatro<\/em><\/a>, a poker roguelike made by a single developer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/games\/card-games\/top-tier-deckbuilder-balatro-hits-1-million-sales-in-less-than-a-month-which-hopefully-justifies-all-the-hours-weve-collectively-lost-to-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold over 1 million copies in its first month<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/24147616\/manor-lords-steam-early-access\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Manor Lords<\/em><\/a>, another solo-dev project in early access on Steam, has also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamedeveloper.com\/business\/manor-lords-tops-1-million-sales-after-garnering-3-2-million-wishlists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sold over 1 million copies<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/24150249\/hades-2-early-access-release-date-steam-egs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Hades 2<\/em> just released in early access<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/kotaku.com\/hades-2-steam-player-count-performance-pc-1851460841\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">doubled its predecessor\u2019s all-time peak player count on Steam<\/a> in a single day. In fact, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-05-08\/xbox-studio-closures-microsoft-plans-more-cost-cutting-measures-after-layoffs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a report from <em>Bloomberg<\/em><\/a>, Tango Gameworks was in the process of pitching a sequel to <em>Hi-Fi Rush <\/em>before it got shut down. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"duet--article--article-body-component\">\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph mb-20 font-fkroman text-18 leading-160 -tracking-1 selection:bg-franklin-20 dark:text-white dark:selection:bg-blurple [&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-franklin dark:[&amp;_a:hover]:shadow-highlight-blurple [&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-black dark:[&amp;_a]:shadow-underline-white\">With <em>Hi-Fi Rush<\/em>, Tango Gameworks gave Microsoft just what Booty says he wants: a small, creatively unique, highly praised, award-winning game.
