Another Disney Channel success story! Hilary Duff<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s breakout role on\u00a0Lizzie McGuire<\/em>\u00a0yielded years of success for the actress that continues today, while her costars chose slightly different paths.<\/p>\n The sitcom \u2014 starring Duff (Lizzie McGuire), Lalaine<\/strong> (Miranda Sanchez), Adam Lamberg<\/strong> (Gordo), Jake Thomas<\/strong> (Matt McGuire), Hallie Todd<\/strong> (Jo McGuire) and Robert Carradine<\/strong> (Sam McGuire) \u2014 aired from 2001 to 2004 and consisted of two seasons and 65 episodes. Duff also played the leading lady in the beloved\u00a0Lizzie McGuire Movie<\/em>\u00a0in 2003 alongside several of her castmates and some new faces.<\/p>\n The show maintained such popularity in the years after its end that Disney+ announced a revival<\/a> in August 2019. Duff agreed to reprise her role in the sequel series, which was set to follow Lizzie as she tried to figure out life in New York City.<\/p>\n \u201cLizzie has also grown up, she\u2019s older, she\u2019s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget. She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York decorator,\u201d the\u00a0Younger<\/em><\/a>\u00a0star revealed at the D-23 expo at the time. \u201c[She has] the perfect man, who owns a fancy restaurant [and is] getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n Duff elaborated on her excitement around revisiting the character via her Instagram Stories. \u201cI don\u2019t really have words. It\u2019s crazy. I really missed her,\u201d she said. \u201cI think now is a great time for her to come back in her thirties. She\u2019s everybody\u2019s best friend, and I can\u2019t wait to go on this next chapter with her.\u201d<\/p>\n Todd, Carradine, Thomas and Lamberg later joined the project<\/a>, while the \u201cSo Yesterday\u201d singer teased what fans could expect from the revival.<\/p>\n \u201cHer having a completely different life than Hilary \u2014 she doesn\u2019t have kids \u2014 I thought it would be a really fun experience to go through it with her,\u201d she exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly<\/em>\u00a0in November 2019. \u201cI think it\u2019s going to be a really good mix of giving everyone what they want from the show in the past, and also a new fresh show and her at 30, which looks completely different<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n The series hit a roadblock in January 2020 when creator and showrunner Terri Minsky<\/strong> quit<\/a>. Duff later complained about \u201climiting the realities<\/a> of a 30-year-old\u2019s journey under the ceiling of a PG rating\u201d and asked to move the show to Hulu<\/a>. However, the\u00a0A Cinderella Story<\/em>\u00a0actress announced in July 2020 that she and the streaming platform had \u201cpressed pause\u201d to regroup<\/a> on their vision.<\/p>\n Duff confirmed in December 2020 that the revival was not moving forward<\/a>.<\/p>\n
