If you\u2019ve purchased an iPhone 14 or 15 series phone in the US \u2014 or one of the latest iPads<\/a> \u2014 you\u2019ll notice it\u2019s missing one key feature: a SIM tray. That\u2019s because Apple\u2019s gone all in on eSIM<\/a>, which is a digital version of the tiny card that allows you to use your wireless provider\u2019s network.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There\u2019s good news and bad news here<\/a>. If you\u2019re switching from an older iPhone, activating an eSIM on your new iPhone is incredibly easy. If you\u2019re switching from an Android phone to an iPhone 14, well, it\u2019s less straightforward.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Whichever path you need to take, we\u2019ve got some guidance for you.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To switch from an iPhone with a physical SIM card to an eSIM iPhone, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Confirm that you see your carrier\u2019s icon and service bars on the top of your screen, and voila: you\u2019re living the eSIM life. Just be aware that your old physical SIM card will no longer work, and if you want to switch back at any point, you\u2019ll need to contact your carrier for a new one.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To switch from an Android phone to an iPhone 14 or 15 \u2014 whether you are using a physical SIM or already have an eSIM \u2014 you\u2019ll need help from your wireless carrier. This may vary in difficulty depending on your carrier. For example:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

No matter who your carrier is, remember to turn off RCS on your Android device before switching so you don\u2019t miss any messages. In Google\u2019s Messages app, you can do this by tapping the profile icon (or three-dot menu icon) in the upper right of the screen. Tap Messages settings > Chat features <\/strong>and toggle off Enable chat features<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

If you do need to call your carrier to move your number to your new iPhone, make sure you\u2019re connected to Wi-Fi and, if possible, call from another phone line. If you can\u2019t do that, let the customer service representative know that you\u2019re calling from the line you want to switch since you\u2019ll likely be disconnected. They should be able to email you a QR code so you can finish the setup process yourself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
