Bernard Hill, the actor known for his work in <\/span>Titanic<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>The Lord of the Rings<\/span><\/em> trilogy, has <\/span>died<\/a>. He was 79.<\/span><\/p>\n Hill’s agent, Lou Coulson, confirmed to <\/span>BBC<\/a><\/em> that he died early Sunday morning. His cause of death has yet to be revealed.<\/span><\/p>\n Hill was set to reunite with his\u00a0<\/span>Lord of the Rings<\/span><\/em> co-stars, including\u00a0<\/span>Orlando Bloom<\/a>, <\/span>Elijah Wood<\/a>, <\/span>Sean Astin<\/a>, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan at Comic Con Liverpool on Saturday. However, the convention announced on X (formerly Twitter) that his appearance had been canceled at the last minute.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Following the news, Monaghan took to Instagram to remember his former co-star, who played King Th\u00e9oden in the franchise.<\/span><\/p>\n “The Broken king has passed to the grey havens but he will always be remembered. #ripbernard photo by Viggo @theoneringnet,” the actor wrote next to a photo of Hill.<\/span><\/p>\n Though he did not share a tribute on his own social media, Bloom liked Monaghan’s post.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hill was also remembered by friend and musician, Barbara Dickson.<\/span><\/p>\n “It’s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill. We worked together in <\/span>John Paul George Ringo and Bert<\/span><\/em>, Willy Russell marvellous show 1974-1975. A really marvellous actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny x #bernardhill,” she wrote on X alongside a black and white photo with Hill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Hill’s decades-long acting career began in the ’70s, but it was his role in 1982’s\u00a0<\/span>Boys from the Blackstuff <\/span><\/em>series\u00a0that made him a breakout. That same year, he also appeared in the film\u00a0<\/span>Gandhi.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n In 1997, Hill played the role of Captain Smith in James Cameron’s 11-time Oscar-winning film, <\/span>Titanic<\/span><\/em>. Following the acclaimed role, Hill joined Peter Jackson’s <\/span>The Lord of the Rings <\/span><\/em>franchise during the second installment<\/span>,<\/span><\/em> <\/span>The Two Towers,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>where he played\u00a0King Th\u00e9oden. Hill appeared in the follow-up, <\/span>The Return of the King,\u00a0<\/span><\/em>in 2003.<\/span><\/p>\n Both\u00a0<\/span>Titanic <\/span><\/em>and\u00a0<\/span>The Return of the King<\/span><\/em>\u00a0earned 11 Oscars each and made Hill one of the only actors to appear in two of the three films with the most Academy Awards of all time.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In 2015, Hill starred in <\/span>Wolf Hall<\/span><\/em>, where he played Duke of Norfolk, Anne Boleyn’s uncle. Hill earned a BAFTA for the role.<\/span><\/p>\n Hill’s final role will be in the upcoming season two of BBC’s <\/span>The Responder<\/span><\/em>, which airs on Sunday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Through his storied career, Hill has credits in TV series, including <\/span>I, Claudius<\/span><\/em>, <\/span>Crown Court,<\/span><\/em> and <\/span>Rooms<\/span><\/em>.
